Glenda Wilson

April 12, 1928 — July 10, 2024

Glenda B. Brinkley Wilson, 96 of Somerset passed from this life on Wednesday, July 10. 2024 at the Cumberland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a brief illness.


She was born on April 12, 1928 in Mark (Pulaski County), Kentucky, daughter of the late Willis Earl and Sarah Marie Whitis Brinkley. Glenda was a graduate of Shopville High School and worked in United Department Store, Watson’s, Cato’s and other retail stores for over 50 years. She was an active member of the Pulaski County Democrat Women’s Club and was an enthusiastic supporter of Democratic politics for several years. Glenda had a genuine passion about family and faith. Her family values and respect were exceptional. She always taught others to try to “see the good in everyone”. Glenda was known for her excellent cooking of delicious dishes and always had a plate at the table for anyone that came to visit her.


Glenda was a dedicated and faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church for over 70 years. She was an Elder, and Sunday School Teacher and faithfully served as member of the Maude Parker Circle in charge of the “Least Coin Mission”. Glenda’s presence at First Presbyterian Church was marked by her diligent and noteworthy work behind the scenes. She was recognized in 2024 for her outstanding service to the Church and the community. Glenda was a loving, kind-hearted and generous wife, mother and grandmother. She was fondly called “granny” by her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved her.


On September 25, 1949 she was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Horace H. G. Wilson and he preceded her in death in 2013. She is also preceded in death by a son: Kenneth Earl Wilson, three brothers; Bill (Chris) Brinkley, George Brinkley and twin brothers who died in infancy; Bobbie and Joe Brinkley.


She leaves behind to cherish her memory, three sons; William Bruce (Sharon) Wilson, George Brinkley (Renee) Wilson and Mark Allan Wilson all of Somerset, eight grandchildren; Ann Marie (J. L.) Pate, Kendra Wilson, Matthew B. Wilson, Lori E. (Lars) Denhart, Boone (Jenny) Williams, Shelby Williams, Olivia Makayla (Matthew) Russell and Jake (Sarah) Williams, thirteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren, two sisters; Wilma “Babe” (Linville) Hughes of Somerset and Ella Jane Hasty of Louisville, Kentucky, a sister in law; Justine Brinkley and a host of other relatives and friends.


Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm on Monday, July 15, 2024 at the First Presbyterian Church. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the church at 1:00 pm with Rev. Brad Napier and Bro. Pendley officiating. Interment will be in the Lakeside Memorial Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest contributions in Memory of Glenda to the First Presbyterian Church, 200 North Vine Street, Somerset, Kentucky 42501. Active Pallbearers will be Greg Reynolds, Dan Floyd, Jim Hughes, David Brinkley, Jack Wilson and Boone Williams. Honorary Pallbearers will be her beloved Sunday School Class. The family wishes to express a special note of gratitude to the staff at Cumberland Nursing and Rehab Home.
