Ray Sayers

April 17, 1928 — December 4, 2020

Ray J. Sayers, age 92, departed his earthly home on December 4, 2020 at Fair Oaks Nursing Home in Jamestown, KY.

Ray was born on April 17, 1928 in Ingle, KY to the late Irvil Sayers and Ollie Vera Roberts Sayers.  He enjoyed farming, bird watching and his animals.  Ray especially enjoyed watching his hummingbirds.  He attended Pleasant Point Baptist Church and was a member of the Army National Guard.  Ray drove a school bus for many years for the Pulaski County School System.

He is survived by his children, Freddie Ray (and Debbie) Sayers of Russell Springs, Sara Jane (and Aaron) Wooden of Louisville and David Lee (and Angela) Sayers of Nancy; his precious grandchildren, Mackenzie (and Brandon) Minton, Tyler Sayers, Jebediah Sayers and Raylee Sayers; two precious great-grandchildren, Branson and Bryson Minton; and nieces and nephews, Rodney (and JoAnn) Dick, Scott (and Kewanna) Garrison, Marcus Dick, Johnny Sweet, Terry Sweet and Janet Stricklin.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Lavene Sayers, whom he married on May 13, 1959 in Jellico, TN and she preceded him on June 18, 2019; one sister, Lucille (and Delmer) VanHoosier; and nieces and nephews; Ronnie Sweet, Lonnie Sweet, Jerry Sweet, Saundra Louise Simpson and  Melody McPherson.

A private visitation will be held for the immediate family at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

His funeral service will also be private at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Patrick Patterson officiating.  Burial will be at Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
