Shirrell Ethridge Mullins, age 86, of Waynesburg, Kentucky, passed away peacefully Monday, July 4, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family. Born Wednesday, November 13, 1935, in the Humphrey community of Casey County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Homer & Inez Durham Mullins. His loving wife, whom he married Saturday, May 21, 1955, is Mildred Ann New Mullins of Waynesburg. Shirrell was a life-long, hardworking farmer, who was a steward of his land and loved his cattle. Shirrell also previously worked as a School Bus Driver, for 25 years, for the Lincoln County Public School System, and retired as Road Foreman for the Lincoln County Road Department. He was a faithful member, of over 60 years, at Double Springs Baptist Church, where he served as a Trustee, was a member of the Older Men’s Sunday School Class, a member of the Senior Citizens, and a volunteer for the monthly Food Pantry distribution. Shirrell was a talented builder, loved working in his garage, and enjoyed gardening.
In addition to his wife, Shirrell leaves behind one son, Shirrell Dexter Mullins (Gina Gover) of Stanford, Kentucky; two daughters, Carolyn Mullins Eckler (Ray) of Waynesburg, and Evonna Mullins Marcum (Farris) of Stanford; six grandchildren, Matt Mullins (Tasha) of Elkhorn City, Kentucky, Luke Mullins (Rachel) of Hustonville, Kentucky, Dustyn Eckler Overstreet of Springfield, Kentucky, Tyler Chase Marcum of Kings Mountain, Kentucky, Julia Mullins (Blake Hobson) of Danville, Kentucky, and Chelsea Marcum Nicely (Douglas) of Mount Vernon, Kentucky; five great-grandchildren, Kingston Overstreet, Caroline Mullins, Benjamin Mullins, Jude Mullins, and Laila Mullins; two sisters, Janet Taylor of Lexington, Kentucky, and Carol Dean Dick (Jiggs) of Science Hill, Kentucky; and several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and friends who mourn his passing.
In addition to his parents, Shirrell was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Mullins and Jerry Mullins (infant; and two sisters, Kathleen Floyd (Lynn), and Faustine Wilson (Ray).
Public Visitations will held 5-8PM Thursday, July 7, 2022, and 9-11AM Friday, July 8, 2022, at Double Springs Baptist Church.
A Public Funeral Service will be held 11:00AM Friday, at the church. Bro. Jami Hamilton, Bro. Brad King, and Bro. Mike New will officiate the service. The Funeral Service will be recorded and uploaded on Shirrell’s memorial page at a later date.
Graveside Service & Burial will take place at 2:00PM Friday, at Lakeside Memorial Gardens in Somerset, Kentucky. Shirrell’s grandchildren will serve as Active Pallbearers. Shirrell’s great-grandchildren, members of the Older Men’s Sunday School Class at Double Springs Baptist Church, and special friends of Double Springs Baptist Church will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
